Can anything curb the dominance of the internet’s big guns?

The internet companies bargain hard to ensure that the new rules will not destroy their business, and the regulators and spies meet them there – it’s inconceivable that a regulator would tell Google that it must change its search business so fundamentally that it had to go out of business altogether.

For now, it’s a good thing we have giants like Google and others using their influence and strong network to fight our internet battles. Things like net neutrality are important for everyone. If big internet companies know that they are in business because of their customers, and they use their big data to learn what their customers want, is it more efficient to let them make decisions for us as an internet whole?
